A FORMER mayor of Whitchurch has announced he will step down from his role as a councillor.
Cllr Mike Kean handed in his resignation to Whitchurch Town Council last Friday citing a ‘change in personal circumstances’ as the reason behind his decision to leave the role.
Mr Kean, who served as the town’s mayor last year, first joined the council in 2011 and has been heavily involved in several major projects such as the creation of the town’s draft flood provisions and emergency plan.
He also previously chaired the council’s leisure and environment committee, helping to develop the town’s allotment, playground and cemetery during his time as a councillor.
Current mayor of Whitchurch Barry Jackman said: “Mike’s many skills have been invaluable to Whitchurch Town Council and his enthusiasm and drive will be sorely missed.
“All members of Whitchurch Town Council wish him well with his new ventures.”
