BCoT textiles for fashion students enjoyed an early celebration of their success at a private viewing of their work at Whitchurch Silk Mill.

Tutors on the BCoT course have established strong links with the mill over the years and, to celebrate its 200th anniversary, they decided to collaborate on a project inspired by silk.

First and second year students on the textiles degree course at BCoT, accredited by the University of Winchester, were tasked with producing a statement garment from silk panels woven at the mill.

The students began their research back in March with a visit to the mill.

Designs were then submitted and a winner was chosen in April to be made up in Whitchurch-made silk.

The reception and private view at the mill marked an opportunity to see all their pieces made up and displayed together and to see Liz Masa Silver’s winning design completed in silk.

Presenting the winning students with their prizes, BCoT deputy principal, Jackie Grubb, said how impressed she was with the standard of their work.

The winning dress and designs from the students who worked on the project will be on display at Whitchurch Silk Mill until the end of June.
