SO-CALLED nuisance trees are being removed across the borough as part of a half-a-million-pound project by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
A programme to remove “nuisance” trees around Popley has begun as part of the borough council’s Tree Strategy which was approved last year.
As part of the programme, the local authority considers removing trees that have grown too big and impact on properties, such as tree roots causing structural damage to properties, pathways or underground services.
The project in Popley will see around 100 trees removed.
The council has also started a woodland management scheme in Little Penwood, near Highclere, with the aim of improving both the recreational use and ecological benefit of the woods.
The council is also talking to Buckskin residents to find out which trees need removing in their area.
Cabinet member for community services and the environment, Councillor Hayley Eachus, said: “Whilst trees help to make the borough a green and pleasant place to live, they can also cause a nuisance to residents.
“Where this is happening, it is important that we take action to limit the issues and improve the quality of the area for our residents.”
