FIRMS are being urged to check that they’re paying the right business rates – and some could be eligible for a discount.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council says that relief is available for small businesses, including pubs, offices, shops and warehouses based in non-domestic premises with a rateable value of up to £12,000.
Those occupying retail premises with a rateable value of up to £50,000 and companies in previously vacant or newly built premises could also get a discount.
Council leader Cllr Clive Sanders said: “There are a number of different types of relief a business could be entitled to, so it’s really important to speak to the council and check whether you’re paying the right amount, as this support could make a big difference.”
The council is also launching an electronic billing system and text message reminders.
