IT’S official – a fast food restaurant in Basingstoke has top toilets after receiving a national award for its loos.
The McDonald’s chain at Basingstoke Leisure Park was declared a winner of the Loo of the Year awards – dubbed the Toilet Oscars – which recognise and reward the best washrooms in the UK.
Franchisee Tony Bennett and his team bagged the Platinum award for the quality of the restaurant’s toilet facilities, which were judged on a wide range of criteria including cleanliness and hygiene, fixtures and fittings, air quality and decor.
Since the awards were introduced in 1987, promoted by the British Toilet Association, they have aimed to promote the highest standards in public lavatories.
Contenders for the Loo of the Year awards are nominated by staff, customers, visitors, managers, owners or contractors before the entries are critiqued and graded as Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum following an unannounced visit from an independent Loo of the Year Awards inspector.
Mr Bennett said: “Staff at my Basingstoke Leisure Park restaurant work exceptionally hard to ensure our customers enjoy a high quality service throughout their visit, and this includes having access to hygienic and safe washroom facilities.
“Our toilets are maintained to a very high standard for all our customers to enjoy, so it’s great to be recognised for our ongoing hard work with this prestigious award.”
