A PUB, run by a top British chef, has been ranked among the best in the country.
The Plough Inn, in Longparish near Whitchurch, was named as the fourth best dining pub at The Budweiser Budvar Top 50 Gastropub awards.
The pub is owned by 35-year-old James Durrant, who was the main course winner in last year’s Great British Menu TV competition.
The pub also won an award for being the highest climber in the shortlist, having been placed 29th in last year’s awards.
James, who owns the pub with his wife Louise, said: “We have all worked incredibly hard to develop and promote the reputation of the Plough and this recognition is entirely due to the hard work and unselfish dedication of our entire team.
“We source the best of British ingredients, where possible using local Hampshire suppliers, who in my opinion rank amongst the best in the country.”
It is the third year running that the Longparish pub has appeared in the list, while James was named Chef of The Year in 2013.
The other pub from The Gazette area to feature on the shortlist was The Wellington Arms at Baughurst, which came 30th.
