THE two people who died in a plane crash at Popham yesterday afternoon have been named.
Lewis Tonkinson, 50, and Sally Tonkinson, 44, from Alcester, Warwickshire, died when a light aircraft came down in woodland south of the westbound Popham services on the A303.
Their six-year-old son sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and is being treated at Southampton General Hospital, police said.
The plane came down in Blackwood Forest at 3.43pm yesterday afternoon.
Police said the aircraft took off from Bembridge on the Isle of Wight that day.
An air ambulance, land ambulances, fire crews and police officers from across the county attended, using the westbound service station as their base.
Police guarded the scene overnight whilst the Air Accident Investigation Branch assessed the aircraft.
