STAFF from leading environmental paper manufacturer Arjowiggins Graphic have helped to revitalise a piece of ancient woodland in Chineham.

Working with Chineham Conservation Group, the team of nine spent the day restoring and coppicing an overgrown area of Great Sorrell’s Copse that supports local birds and plants, such as the Great Spotted Woodpecker, Early Purple Orchid and Herb-Paris, for the past 400 years.

David Glover, secretary of Chineham and Popley Conservation Volunteers, said: “The support from local businesses, such as Arjowiggins Graphic, is incredibly valuable as we need many hands for coppicing.

“Clearing the overgrown areas in this way sustains the long-term health of the woodland and provides a more suitable habitat for wildlife.”

Julian Long, national key account manager from Arjowiggins Graphic, headquartered at Lindenwood, in Crockford Lane, Lime Tree Way, Chineham Park, said: “The core focus of our business is to mitigate the impact of our manufacturing processes on the environment and helping to restore our local woodland fits well with these values.”
