THE health and fitness sector is big business – and Basingstoke Aquadrome is in even better shape to meet customer expectations following a £140,000 investment.

The money is being used to provide the latest equipment in line with fitness industry trends as well as advanced technology to improve the 5,800 members’ health and wellbeing.

The Leisure Park facility is managed by Basingstoke and Deane Community Leisure Trust on behalf of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

The centre has already undergone the first part of a two-phase refurbishment with a raft of improvements to the fitness suite.

Brand new cardiovascular equipment was installed in August with the latest technological features to give members an enhanced experience during their workout.

The second and final phase of the refurbishment, which started last week, sees the creation of an extended free weights area and new strength-building equipment.

Trust chairman Hazel Tilbury said: “Providing a great environment to keep fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle at an affordable price is at the core of the trust’s mission.”

Matthew Melly, interim partnership manager for the Basingstoke and Deane Community Leisure Trust, said: “The new equipment and configuration of the fitness suite is great news for all our customers who will benefit from brand new kit and the latest technology at no extra cost.

“For those who want to give the gym a go and try out the new kit, we are offering a free seven-day pass for people to try before they buy.”

The new treadmills will be used to enable members to run an accredited treadmill London Marathon at the Aquadrome in April 2015.
