THE house sparrow is the most spotted bird in gardens in Hampshire, a survey has found.
The Big Garden Birdwatch, carried out by more than 15,000 people in Hampshire for the RSPB, saw the house sparrow come top, the blue tit second, and the starling third. Other birds in the top 10 included the goldfinch, chaffinch and collared dove.
Scientists believe the milder weather this winter was the reason for fewer birds being recorded than in previous surveys.
