THE grieving family of a mum who died in a car crash in Basingstoke have described her as "a wonderful mother, sister, daughter and granddaughter".

Sheena Grant, who was 25 and from Reading, died at Basingstoke hospital on November 29 from injuries sustained after the Peugeot 106 she was travelling in as a rear-seat passenger was involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota Carina in The Harrow Way, Cranbourne.

She was one of seven people - including three children - who were taken to hospital as a result of the crash, which happened at about 6.30pm on November 26. Her five-year-old daughter suffered a ruptured spleen in the incident and remains in Southampton General Hospital.

The accident victim's mother, Grace Branker, issued a statement paying tribute to her daughter.

"Sheena was a very much-loved member of a small family," she said. "She was loved by all her friends and those she came into contact with. She was always happy, with a larger-than-life personality.

"Sunday, November 26, has marred our lives forever, due to a tragic road accident.

"On Wednesday, November 28, Sheena bid farewell and left us all.

"She leaves a very broken family and a beautiful five-year-old daughter. Also, a partner, Adam, and his family, who loved her very much."

Miss Grant's brother, Carl Grant, also of Reading, added: "Sheena was a woman who was loved much more than she often gave herself credit for, and she was known to always help others, often before herself. Her loss was not just the loss of a family member, but the loss of a vital part of a family body."

The police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and anyone who can help should contact Hampshire Constabulary's Roads Death Investigation Unit, at Eastleigh, on 0845 045 4545.
