ARTISTIC students could have their work displayed at a national exhibition.

Six pupils from Fort Hill Community School, in Kenilworth Road, Winklebury, had their work put forward for the National Students Art Exhibition run by the Royal Society of British Artists.

The Year 9 and 10s are now waiting to find out if their pieces have been successful, and will this week hear if their work will be displayed at the Mall Galleries in London in March 2014.

Jo Binmore, head of creative arts at Fort Hill, selected the students work to put forward for the competition.

She said: “I am immensely proud to have been invited to select student work for this competition.

“The standard of art work from our students in Year 9 and 10 is exceptional and it was a difficult selection to make. The six pieces of work selected displayed excellent levels of control, maturity and skill for students so young.”

Hollie Warner, 15, had her photograph on canvas, above, submitted in the competition.

She said: “I was keen to develop my photography skills and looked at ways to present these in a fine art style. This final piece was developed from an image I took at the start of a storm and I am pleased with the way it captures a sense of movement.”

Dolly Espera, 15, who created a woman’s head using mixed media on canvas, above, said: “I like to work with strong textures and fabrics. This project gave me the opportunity to develop my skills of working with mixed media on a large scale. I was really excited to have my work selected.”

The other students chosen to put their work forward were Emily Nicholson, 14, Amy Hibbett, 15, Megan Samad, 15, and Frazier Miller, 14.
