A GRIEVING family are set to relaunch a fundraising campaign ahead of a second trial of the man who stabbed their son to death.

Last year, Andy and Rhian Sebbage breathed a sigh of relief after Greek taxi driver Stelios Morfis was found guilty of the unintentional manslaughter of their 18-year-old son Robert, following a two-week trial.

Robert was killed on the Greek island of Zante on July 13, 2011 while on holiday with friends, four of whom suffered life-threatening bodily injuries when Morfis also stabbed them with a knife.

Although Mr and Mrs Sebbage, and their other two other sons, from Weyhill Close, Tadley, said the prison sentence of six years did not “reflect the horrific and senseless killing of our son”, they were, at least, able to put the nightmare ordeal behind them, having spent months raising funds to fight for justice for their son.

But now the Sebbage family have re-launched their fundraising drive as they may have to attend another trial in Greece because the Greek prosecutor’s office did not accept the result of the first trial, which cleared Morfis of murder.

Debs Patton, a friend of the Sebbage family, said: “Prompted by Greek public opinion that the verdict was not severe enough, the prosecutor’s office has decided to pursue a retrial.”

She added: “This is not due to any appeal from the families of Robert and his friends and thus the decision to have a second trial is entirely in Greek hands.”

Mr and Mrs Sebbage have now organised a fundraising day in May for The Out of the Blue Appeal Fund, set up to raise money to pay for legal fees and the costs involved in attending another trial in Greece.

Barlows Park, in Tadley, has invited the family to host a family fun day for a second year on May 5, which will include football, live music and food, starting at 1pm when there will be traditional egg and spoon races, sack races and tug of war. The Robert Sebbage Memorial Football Match will kick off at 3pm on the day.

A statement from the Sebbage family said: “As a family, we are grateful for the overwhelming support and generosity shown by the Tadley community, and the families and friends of all those affected.”
