The Victoria Hotel was a popular public house in the 1960s. In 1965 it became a temporary home for Basingstoke’s celebrated Galaxy Club and, as such hosted Andover’s most famous exports The Troggs and the fire-brandishing chart-topper Arthur Brown.
Basingstoke’s first nightclub The Bird’s Nest was established at the back of the pub at the start of the 1970s but later in the decade both the pub and the nightclub were transformed and re-branded as The Olde Vic and Maxwell’s.
The current incumbents, Lamb Brooks, acquired the Vic in the 1980s and whilst they have preserved the façade, the interior has been altered beyond recognition.
