FOLLOWING last year’s runaway success with The Producers, Basingstoke’s oldest musical society BAOS returns to The Haymarket with Thoroughly Modern Millie next month.

They’ll take you back to the roaring twenties for a hilarious fast-paced musical bonanza that will have you dancing in your seat.

Based on the musical comedy film starring Mary Tyler Moore, Julie Andrews and Carol Channing, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a perfect family show, a toe-tapping tribute to the fun of the flapper era.

Set in 1922, it’s the story of Millie Dillmount, a small town girl attracted to the lights and lifestyle of New York. She’s determined, vivacious and a self-proclaimed pioneer for women. But, Millie’s mission is to marry her boss as she hopes to achieve financial security.

Her plans change when she meets the charming Jimmy Smith. Is there more to Jimmy than meets the eye, and will he cause her to reconsider what she really wants out of life?

BAOS is delighted to introduce the lovely Dawn Stephens as the effervescent leading lady Millie as she meets the charismatic Jimmy, played by BAOS’s Tom McReavy, a star performer who was fabulous in last year’s performances of The Producers.

The show is directed by Helen Buick, who brings a vast experience of directing and choreographing to BAOS. She is capably complemented by musical director Simon Eastwood, who has been with BAOS for a number of years both on and off stage.

With music by Jeanine Tesori and book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan, there are some fabulous songs to enjoy including Thoroughly Modern Millie, Gimme Gimme and Forget About the Boy.

The BAOS cast and crew are currently very busy preparing for a great run. The cast is made up of both previous and new members, who are also rehearsing some fabulous tap numbers to entertain Basingstoke and North Hampshire audiences.

Thoroughly Modern Millie runs from March 25 – 29 at The Haymarket.
