Neil Duncan reviews the Basingstoke Punk Collective's Sunday Sanctuary matinee

THE destruction of society post-Corbyn has begun with the Basingstoke Punk Collective putting on a Sunday Matinee show, and free for goodness' sake - where will in all end?

First up were The Harry Macintosh Project who I have not seen for a while, so I was delighted to have a chance to check them out again.

They have a very distinctive style, technically excellent with some genuinely excellent and entertaining songs. A very enjoyable set, even to a crowd still struggling with post-Saturday exhaustion (and other things).

Next up were The Dub Writers, who I have not seen for ages and I think they are London-based now. After the frantic mayhem of the opening band, these guys were a bit more chilled and the contrast in styles worked very well.

The crowd had grown and the band went down very well. The playing was excellent, although the poor drummer seemed to be struggling at times.

Back to the heavy with This Ends Here from Bristol. Much heavier and much faster - they definitely woke everyone up. I don't think I'd seen these guys before, but I certainly intend to see them again.

The delivery was pure adrenaline and the crowd was moving now. Even a snapped string could not dent the enthusiasm as a replacement guitar was found and the set carried on in fine form.

The last band of the day were Grand Collapse from Cardiff. If anything, I thing these guys were the fastest and heaviest band of the day. The crowd was so psyched by now that the moshing was pretty intense, with human pyramids, crowd-surfing, the works.

Their style is pretty much my punk ideal, loud, fast, heavy with some really aggressive vocals singing about important socio-political topics and entertaining everybody at the same time.
