THE Royal Air Force will be bringing its unique big band sound to The Anvil on Sunday as part of this year’s 13-venue RAF In Concert national concert tour.

The evening will feature musicians from the Central Band of the Royal Air Force performing a mixture of light classics, jazz, big band music and show songs.

Playing alongside them will be the RAF Squadronaires, one of the UK’s top big bands, as well as the Salon Orchestra, consisting of six musicians who bring a stringed element to the evening.

BBC Radio 2 broadcaster Alan Dedicoat will be introducing the programme, which will be conducted by Squadron Leader Duncan Stubbs, and is designed to appeal to all ages.

Musical highlights will include a range of music from the pictures – including The Great Escape, Dr No, The Dambusters and Out of Africa – a medley of military marches, some speedy xylophone work on the William Tell Overture; and a new compilation for strings and band based on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

Alan, who is a regular on the BBC Radio 2 ratings-topping Wake Up to Wogan and the “voice of the balls” on the National Lottery, said: “I was delighted to be asked to work again with the Bands of the Royal Air Force, and I’m looking forward to compering this very special concert featuring one of the service’s top bands.”

The performance begins at 7.30pm and tickets, priced from £13.50, are available from the box office on 01256 844244 or online at anvilarts.org.uk.
