WHEN Essex wife and mum, Rita O’Grady, gets fed up with the way she and her fellow women are treated in the work place, she leads a protest for equal rights.
A tale which seems as familiar today as it did in 1968.
Rita recently took to the streets of Basingstoke as the Basingstoke Amateur Operatic Society (BAOS) brings its rendition of Made in Dagenham to the Haymarket.
Ahead of the performances, which start on March 19, Rita, played by Nicola Morrin, was joined by other cast members at Waitrose and The Malls to perform a selection of songs from the show.
As the show focuses on the Ford sewing machinists strike of 1968, the cast also donned their overalls to pose with chairman of the Ford Cortina MkII Owners Club, Eddie Newman’s Cortina Savage.
This latest show from award-winning BAOS is very timely, following International Women’s Day last week and the current spotlight on eliminating the Gender Pay Gap.
Performances of Made in Dagenham will run at the Haymarket from March 19 – 23, for more information and tickets visit anvilarts.org.uk/whats-on/made-in-dagenham-the-musical.
