THIS winter, Proteus Theatre Company is putting on a contemporary re-telling of the classic Little Red Riding Hood.

In this adaptation, Scarlett leaves her tiny village behind and heads for the bright lights of the big city to start an exciting new job in her granny’s record store.

But all is not as it seems; the record store is under threat by the wolves from the ‘Lupus Corporation’.

Meanwhile, James spends his days sweeping the streets, dreaming of a life of tranquillity in the forest.

But recently he’s been feeling tired, almost as if he had spent the whole night running through the streets. He doesn’t know why, but when the moon is full he feels very different.

When Scarlett and James meet, the wheels of fate are set in motion.

Mary Swan, artistic director for Proteus, said: "This alternative take on the well-known, traditional tale of Little Red Riding Hood highlights the differences between the sprawling urban landscape and rural communities. It’s no co-incidence that the content of the show reflects our diverse tour schedule - audiences will enjoy the same production, whether in a community hall or professional theatre."

Join Scarlett, a small girl with big dreams, and James, a city boy who longs to be in the forest, on their adventure to save the record store from falling into the wrong claws, alongside a cast of colourful characters including Isadora, record store owner and Scarlett’s glamorous grandma, a vegetarian werewolf, and a couple of sinister characters with pointed noses, furry ears and pinstripe suits! This is a story of generosity, greed, family and friendship.
