AT THEIR September meeting, Oakley and Deane WI played New Age Kurling. This is a form of the original curling game but adapted to enable it to be played on any smooth and flat surface. The tactical game is played using stones on weighted ball bearings and two teams take it in turns to slide the stones towards the bull’s eye target mat to score points dependent upon which colour the stones end up on. It is not as easy as it looks and there were not many scoring stones but it made for a very enjoyable and fun evening.

Details were given of a New Forest Walk and reminders were given about a skittles evening and the group meeting on October 10 at Church Cottage, at which Louise Harrington, a singer, will be entertaining members and there will be a competition for any craft item in red, white and blue.

The Autumn Federation meeting will be at The Anvil on October 24, when the special guest in the morning will be Nick Hill, a volunteer guide at Bletchley Park and the guest speaker in the afternoon will be Adam Henson, from Countryfile.

At the October meeting, Dr Alick Jones will be telling members how to make gardens more wildlife friendly and he will also provide an appropriate quiz. As usual, the meeting will be on the second Tuesday of the month at the Andover Road Village Hall from 7.30pm to 9.45pm, and any guests will be made most welcome.
