THE Bell Fund: Not since Tony Pielow used to present his interesting evenings on subjects such Glyndebourne or The Stars at Night have we seen such a packed village hall in Dummer as we did last Friday when Lady Young gave a fascinating talk on her father, the sculptor Oscar Nemon.

The story covered his hilarious entry into the world (he was named after a horse passing by on the street), his leaving of his native country to avoid the Nazi uprising, and his family life starting on a hill in a prefab when his wife’s family disowned her, through to sculpting very famous people including the Queen, Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, Freud and his own family etc.

The talk was illuminating, fascinating and very funny yet poignant and all who attended had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Many thanks to Lady Young and also to the Bell Fund committee. May we have more such evenings.

MANY thanks: To those who have contributed to The Children’s Society via Hill and Dale, our local magazine. Our hardworking editor suggested that the four villages in the parish of Farleigh contributed to the society by placing a notice in Hill and Dale instead of buying and delivering of local cards.

If anyone missed the deadline, contact me as I can get cards for this worthwhile charity. I have already received a generous donation and look forward to receiving more.

MAY I remind people: That I only accept landline calls re village hall bookings?
