SOGGY Saturday: Despite the inclement weather, nearly 30 intrepid souls braved the elements and came to the Ellisfield Volunteer Group DIY barbecue and picnic.

Thanks to Steve Ayscough for lending us his splendid barbecue and to Ted and Phil and Tony who lit the fire and erected the gazebos to keep us dry.

Anyone driving past lower common must have thought us crazy, but a good time was had by all.

Celia Lunn was the barbecue goddess producing a three-course meal with coffee all served in her umbrella gazebo – the height of luxury.

Tom Lavender organised the cricket, so following the hard work cooking, the men took to the green and there was some fine bowling and even better catches – perhaps they could teach the England team something!

CURRY ’n’ Quiz: On Sunday evening, at The Fox Inn, starting at 7.30pm, teams of four are invited to participate and take up the challenge of quizmaster Jan Jack.

Curry suppers available at £4, entry is £1 per person. Do go along and participate in this event.

ALL change this week: Wednesday Yoga was on Tuesday, as was the parish council meeting, and Ellisfield Ladies and friends enjoyed a walk around Odiham on Wednesday.

SALE of the Century: Brian Spicer returns to tell Horticultural Society members and visitors more about the history of Hackwood House, at 7.45pm at Ellisfield Memorial Hall, on Wednesday, July 29.
