HARVEST service: The Harvest Festival Service on Sunday was well attended.

There are apparently some 200 words that can be made out of the letters "Harvest".

Only 10 words using letters held up by a mixed-aged group from the congregation were actually shown, but it was an amusing and appropriate exercise for a family service.

The lunch and auction of produce was attended by about 40. Some time ago the auction was held at the Jolly Farmer, but bidding for a collection of produce, despite being of excellent quality, by a captive audience out for a quiet Sunday lunch, proved somewhat less than popular.

OTHER events: The next church event is a plant sale on Saturday, October 4, at the church, at 1pm, with donations from 10am.

There is also a jumble sale on October 26, and the autumn supper and quiz is on Saturday, November 1. Full details later.

WALK: Last week, I referred to the village as being easily accessible from Basingstoke as the start of the countryside. 3CG has several walk leaflets, but these are currently out of print.

But on Sunday, October 5, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is organising an eight-mile walk, with a three-mile "short option", with the intention of creating a country trail route.

As there is some uncertainty over the final arrangements, and it may be held on Saturday, October 4, instead, please call Sarah Broadhead, of Loddon and Eversley Wildlife and Heritage Trails, on 01256 381103 to check details.
