VOLUNTEERS wanted: Thanks to recent good weather, the grass will still need cutting for a few more weeks.

While we enjoy the promised Indian summer, perhaps you would like to volunteer your services to mow either lower common or the gravel pits of the burial ground. Please contact Ted Dowson on 01256 381529.

CONGRATULATIONS: To Pc Andy Reid, who received a "Commendation" at a recent ceremony for the North and East Hampshire Operational Command Unit for Hampshire Constabulary.

It was good to read in last week's Gazette that we're not the only ones who think he is a fantastic rural beat officer.

VACANCY: You may have read in the latest Ellisfield Parish Council newsletter that there is a vacancy for a councillor.

According to section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972, if, within 14 working days after the date this vacancy was published (September 15 to October 3), a request for an election to fill the said vacancy is made in writing to the returning officer at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Civic Offices, London Road, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG21 4AH, by 10 electors for the parish, an election will be held to fill the said vacancy; otherwise the vacancy will be filled by the parish council by co-option.

If you are interested or would like more information on becoming a councillor, please contact me on the number above.

Alternatively, call Tim Guinness, parish council chairman, on 01256 381348.
