A BASINGSTOKE engineering consultancy has been crowned Company of the Year at the Hampshire Business Awards.

At a glittering awards ceremony at Basingstoke's Milestones museum, Scott Wilson was named KPMG Company of the Year, an accolade which rewards all-round business excellence.

The firm, which has its headquarters in Basing View, employs about 4,000 people and provides a range of services to the transport, property, natural resource and environmental sectors.

Scott Wilson won the same accolade in 2003 in recognition of its contributions.

Tony Cottam, of award sponsors KPMG, said: "Scott Wilson radiates excellence across all areas of its business.

"From its financial performance, reflected by a successful flotation earlier this year, to its strong people agenda, the company is an outstanding example for other Hampshire businesses to aspire to."

Commenting on Scott Wilson's latest success, chairman Geoff French said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have won this year's award.

"It recognises our contribution to enhancing Hampshire's business reputation and the protection of the environment. So it is a great honour and something for which we feel very proud.

"It is also a reflection of the sheer hard work and professionalism of everyone at Scott Wilson."

Currently in their 16th year, the Hampshire Business Awards are widely recognised as the county's top business honours, rewarding the very best business talent.

The Company of the Year accolade recognises excellence in products and services, with a focus on the dynamic approach and innovation of companies that operate within Hampshire.
