A LOCAL historian, who has spent the last two years researching the names on Basingstoke War Memorial, has launched a website to remember those who lost their lives in the First World War.

David Stewart, of Beaconsfield Road, Cranbourne, Basingstoke, first started his research into the names of the 1914-18 fallen that appear on the town’s main war memorial two years ago, and he has been able to find information by looking at records and carrying out further research around the borough.

David has now set up a website – basingstokeremembers.co.uk – which features the names of those who lost their lives in the conflict on the exact day they died, as well as providing information on their rank, regiment and age.

However, David is now looking for a volunteer website designer to help him design a website that can display the full profiles of each man who died in the four-year conflict.

If you are interested in helping David to create full profiles on the website, call 07411 588895 or email basingstokewm@outlook.com.
