SUPER Sammy Argent’s season with Basingstoke Town is over, after he suffered a double break to his jaw during Saturday’s 3-1 win over leaders Hereford.

It is a bitter blow for Town to lose one of their top players and it was Argent who gave Basingstoke the dream start last Saturday with a goal after 70 seconds.

The injury came as a result of a collision outside the box with Hereford goalkeeper in the second half.

The mid season signing from local rivals Hartley Wintney brings so much more to the team than just his goals.

Town boss Terry Brown said: “It is bitterly disappointing to lose Sam for the rest of the season. We are certainly going to miss him as his work rate is second to none in his team. Two weeks ago I had four strikers and could play two, but with Ben Wright out on loan, now have two strikers left.

After Town s superb win over leaders Hereford, their seventh straight home league win.

Another of the top side Slough Town will travel to the Camrose on Saturday.

Tim Wohlfiel will miss the game due to ankle injury, while Charlie Kennedy and Shaun Hollamby are doubts.

The visiting Rebels include four former Town favourites in Nathan Smart, Manny Williams Simon Dunn and Chris Flood.

Williams and Dunn both scored in Slough's 4-1 win at St Ives on Tuesday night and Brown felt the pair had a telling influence in the away game earlier in the season which ended 1-1.

Brown said: "When Simon Dunn and Manny Williams came off the bench they changed the game and really had to defend well to take the draw. I expect another tough game, but we are at home and we have a great record here.

On Tuesday night, Town have their longest trip of the season to second placed King s Lynn.
