SECURING the long term future of Basingstoke Town will take another big step on Tuesday night, when the club will elected a provision committee to move them to community status.

This will happen at a fans forum at the Camrose, which starts at 7pm.

It is hoped there will be a large attendance for what is the most important meeting in the club’s history.

This is not a new idea and many successful clubs like Portsmouth are now community run.

The club are looking for three individuals to join a provision committee of six, with the other three made up of members of the existing Interim Management Group and these will be announced before Tuesday’s meeting.

This committee will be in place for six months and then a full election will take place to put together a team of 12 to run the club thereafter.

The main aim of the new committee will be to raise funds to increase the playing budget and they will have their own bank account.

The club have been working closely with Supporters Direct to make sure they have the correct model, which will work for Basingstoke Town.

The reason for this is current owner Rafi Razzak is creasing funding as of this season and also wants to sell the Camrose.

Basingstoke’s CEO David Knight said: “This is exciting times for the club as a community club means fans can have a share and a vote in the future of their club. We hope people will come forward on Tuesday, who can take this club forward. There is a lot of work to be done, but is proven model which has worked well at other clubs.”
