BASINGSTOKE Town old boys Manny Williams and Simon Dunn came back to haunt their former team, as both scored for Slough Town in their 4-1 victory at the Camrose.

The defeat ended Town’s impressive run of seven straight league wins and it was sweet revenge for the Rebels beaten 4-1 on their last visit to Basingstoke.

Terry Brown was forced to make three changes due to injuries to the starting XI which beat leaders Hereford 3-1.

Tim Wohlfiel, Sam Argent and Shane Hollamby, were replaced by Jack McKnight, Sam Smart and Tom Leggett.

For the second week running, the home side got off to a dream start, as Smart scored in the first minute.

However, Slough were level five minutes later, as Ben Harris was able to poke home a rebound from Williams.

The home side went in search of the lead again and Smart fired wide.

Slough’s goal scorer Harris then suffered an injury and was replaced by Perry Coles.

The visitors started to enjoy some good pressure with both Williams and James Dobson testing Colm McAdden in the home goal.

Then right on the stroke of half-time, Slough scored their second of the afternoon, as George Wells fired in from just outside the area.

The visitors took nine minutes of the second half to extend their advantage, as Williams rose unmarked to head home a Dobson free-kick.

Just after the hour mark, Basingstoke’s Leggett with a super strike, was denied by the crossbar and then the home side had a good shout for a penalty, after Callum Bunting went down in the box.

In the final 10 minutes of the game Warren Harris and Coles both tested McAdden.

Then in injury time, Williams set-up fellow former Town man Dunn to wrap up the scoring.

Basingstoke have little time to lick their wounds after this defeat, as next up is a trip to second place King’s Lynn on Tuesday night.
