A LAST minute penalty saw Basingstoke Town lose 3-2 at Weymouth, in their latest Southern League Premier Division outing on Tuesday night.

This was a game which the Dragons deserved so much more from and they opened the scoring in the fourth minute, when Ben Wright slotted home.

Three minutes later, Weymouth were given a let off as lively winger Sam Smart outpaced Mark Cooper and left Calvin Brooks on the floor, before his shot was well saved by Mark Travers at the near post.

The home goalkeeper then had to rescue of his side again, as from a corner, Shane Hollamby's volley ricocheted off Jack McKnight and Travers had to scoop the ball away.

Just after the hour mark, Weymouth levelled things from Ben Thomson.

However, just two minutes later Town led again as Smart fired in from the right side of the box.

The home side then levelled again with nine minutes left, as Brooks steered in a low cross from Thomson.

Then disaster struck in the final minute, as Dan Bayliss was adjudged to have fouled Brandon Goodship. The same player dusted himself down and slotted in from the spot.

Town still could have ended up with a share of spoils, as Sam Deadfield fired over after Smart's cross had been tipped onto the bar.

Basingstoke are back at home this Saturday, when fourth placed Redditch are the visitors.
