WITH lightning flashing overhead at the Camrose, there was one lightning strike on the pitch from Woking's Inih Effiong, before the game was abandoned at half-time due to torrential rain.

Basingstoke Town gave debuts to central defender Jordan Aghatise and midfielder Callum Collins, and held their own against their visiting National League opponents.

It took until the 16th minute for the visiting Cards had their first real chance, but Charlie Carter's shot was saved by the feet of Zak Oualah, once again in goal for Town.

Soon after, the same player sent a low shot just wide of the target.

The home side then nearly carved out an opening as George Bennett and .Sam Deadfield in his first game back from injury set-up Aaron Jarvis, but his effort was blocked.

Woking' Effiong then curled a shot over, before David Ray suffered a cut just above his head and needed a bandage around his head.

With the rain now lashing down and Woking's Joe Ward lashed in a cross from the right and Effiong connected at the near post after 36 minutes.

Two minutes later, Oualah made an excellent save to deny Effiong one-on-one and then in the final minute of the first half, Fabio Saraiva forced a good two handed save from Oualah The half time whistle blew and with rain falling even heavier during the break, it was no surprise when the game was called off.

Talking after the game Town boss Terry Brown said: "I was surprised the ref did not stop it earlier as it was getting dangerous. I thought Razor (David Ray ) was excellent and won ever header and Zaki (Oualah) made a couple of good saves.

I thought we played okay today, but with no threat up front.

Town are next at Bracknell away on Saturday.
