BASINGSTOKE Town suffered a 4-0 loss away at Chesham United in the Southern League Premier Division.

Town manager Terry Brown made one change to the starting XI which lost at home to St Ives last weekend, with Aaron Jarvis back in place of Michael Atkinson.

The visitors had early chances from Charlie Kennedy and Romone Rose and so nearly took the lead, when Nana Owusu’s free-kick hit the post, as Chesham goalie Ashlee Jones could only watch.

The home side then went close from Sam Youngs and Dave Pearce, before they took the lead after 33 minutes.

Pearce’s cross was flicked on by Darren Purse and Brad Wadkins tapped in at the back post.

This was how it stayed to half-time, but five minutes after the break, the home side doubled their advantage as Youngs played in Drew Roberts to score.

The home could have had a third, before the hour mark, but Roberts’ shot came back off the post.

Chesham did make it 3-0 on the 71 minute mark, as Roberts grabbed his second of the game.

They then added a fourth, when Youngs netted a rebound from sub Barry Hayles.

Town will hope to bounce back on Tuesday night (7.45pm), when they face Kings Lynn at home.

The Norfolk side lost 2-0 at Gateshead in the FA Trophy yesterday, and are currently four places below Town in 17th.

In other news, the Dragons have been drawn at home to Wessex League Division One side AFC Stoneham, in the last eight of the Hampshire Senior Cup, which is due to be played on Tuesday January 17.

Hartley Wintney are also at home on the same night, to Southern League South and West outfit AFC Totton.
