BASINGSTOKE Town made if five home wins in the trot and in the process ended visiting Merthyr Town's 14 game unbeaten run in the league.

The 3-2 victory was sweet revenge for the Dragons for a 4-0 reverse earlier in the season in Wales.

The home side started lively and took the lead after three minutes, when Deadfield found Romone Rose on the left and his cross to the back post was put away by Nana Owusu.

Merthyr then dominated as the Dragons sat back, but on 12 minutes the home side so nearly doubled their lead, as Rose and Owusu combined and Deadfield from the edge of the area saw his shot beat goalie Glyn Garner, but hit the bar and post.

Soon after, the Martyrs' Jarrad Wright had a header from a corner saved on the line by Alex Tokarczyk.

The visitors then levelled as from another corner Tokarczyk seemed to be fouled, as he tried to get to the ball, and Ryan Prosser slammed it home after 24 minutes.

The visitors then nearly took the lead, as Keyon Reffell's shot was well saved and Prosser fired the rebound wide.

As the half came to a close the home side started to push on more, but only a smart save from Tokarczyk denied Mclaggon at the near post.

Then just before the break, the Dragons scored the goal of the game.

Deadfield rolled the ball into Rose and he turned the defender and fired into the top corner to make it 2-1 at the break.

After an even opening after the interval, the home side increase their lead on 51 minutes.

Matt Partridge's low shot should have been saved by former Wales international goalkeeper Garner, However, he got down to the low shot and missed the ball and went in by the post, much to the delight of the home fans who braved .

After this Merthyr had no choice, but to start pumping the ball, forward and they had their chances, but the centre pairing of David Ray and Joe Gater kept them out, while up front Rose and Owusu worked tirelessly.

The visitors pulled a goal back after 69 minutes from Mclaggon courtesy of a toe poke in the area.

Then with five minutes Owusu had a great chance to put the game to bed, but fired wide.

With four minutes of added on time the visitors had one last chance, but Scott Barrow's free-kick from just outside the area, was well caught by Tokarczyk and the final whistle blew for a memorable win.

Next up for Town is a home game against St Ives on Saturday.
