BASINGSTOKE Town were knocked out of the FA Trophy in the third qualifying round at National League South side Bath City.

The Dragons from the Southern League Premier Division, had been hoping to cause an upset, but went out beaten 2-0 at Tiverton Park.

The visitors who were without captain David Ray, started the better, as they moved the ball around quickly and when they lost it, closed down the Bath forwards forcing them into mistakes.

The home boss made an early switch with striker Marvin Morgan being replaced by Shaquille Hunter.

The sub nearly made an immediate impact after 26 minutes, as he got his head to Andy Watkins’ cross, but could only find the post.

Soon after, Town’s Nana Owusu shot wide and then on the half hour mark the Dragons’ conceded a penalty.

Matt Partridge sliced a clearance and as the players waited for the ball to come down Joe Gater was adjudged to have fouled Tyler Harvey.

The Bath striker dusted himself down and gave Alex Tokarcyzk no chance from the spot as the home side took the lead.

Just before the break, Owusu forced a save from Bath’s Max O’Leary, as it remained 1-0 at half-time.

Any hopes that Town had were made twice as hard, just three minutes after the interval.

A lovely ball from Billy Murphy was latched onto by Harvey, for his second goal of the game.

Bath’s Nick McCootie was then lucky to stay on the park, after he committed two bookable challenges in quick succession, but was only shown one yellow card.

Town striker Aaron Redford then fired wide after an excellent run from Rob Atkinson.

Then in the final minute, Owusu had a shot which deflected over the bar, but they were unable to break their duck.

The Dragons are back in action on Tuesday night (7.45pm), when Merthyr Tydfil are the visitors for a league game.
