BASINGSTOKE Town Ladies got 2015 off to an excellent start, beating top-of-the-table Maidenhead United to reach the quarter-finals of the Southern League Chairman’s Cup on Sunday.

Visiting Town conceded in the second minute and were two goals down with 22 minutes on the clock, but they hit back in fine style to win the game 3-2.

Justine Mosley’s through-ball put Sam Mosley through to pull a goal back shortly after Maidenhead had scored their second. Justine Mosley levelled the game from the penalty spot just before half-time, Sam Mosley having been brought down.

The same two players combined to score the winning goal 15 minutes from time. Sam Mosley broke down the left and centred the ball for Justine Mosley to volley home.

Basingstoke will travel to Banbury Ladies in the quarter-finals later this month, but before that, they host Winchester City in the North Hants Cup at Winklebury on Sunday.

Lianne Hill, Shannon King and Charlotte May were all on the scoresheet as the reserves beat Alderbury Ladies 3-2 in Hampshire League Division Three. Next up for them is a home game against Sholing Ladies on Sunday.
