BASINGSTOKE Town Ladies suffered the heartbreak of losing in a penalty shoot-out as they made their exit from the Hampshire Cup on Sunday.
Hosts Andover New Street had a player sent off for dissent after just 27 minutes and it looked as if Town were in control when Justine Mosley headed home on 53 minutes.
However, the hosts hit back, levelling just three minutes later and taking the lead with 20 minutes to go. Basingstoke levelled when Lindsey Beverley’s cross was headed home by Katie Randell, but they could not find a winner before the end of 90 minutes and the game was decided by a penalty shoot-out, which the hosts were able to win 5-3.
Next up for the ladies is a trip to Newbury Ladies in the league on Sunday.
The reserves beat Bursledon Ladies 6-2 to progress in the Hampshire Intermediate Cup. Shannon King hit a hat-trick, Charlotte May scored twice and Sarah North also found the net. They travel to Alderbury Ladies in the Hampshire League Junior Cup on Sunday.
