THIS week, I have found it really interesting listening to and reading people’s views on last weekend’s 1-0 victory at Wealdstone.

Some people have described it as a smash and grab, daylight robbery and a very lucky result.

Although we were not at our fluent best, we still had spells of the game where our play was very good, but with the opposition playing only one forward, it can be difficult to play through them.

We made good use of our full-backs in the first half and forced them to change shape midway through to stop us getting joy. We had one or two half-chances in the first half, as did Wealdstone.

In the second half, they had a good chance that our goalkeeper Stuart Moore was equal to, and we had a one-on-one that their ’keeper was equal to.

Stuart made one good block from a bouncing ball and we had a couple of opportunities where we should have got shots off a bit quicker. They also had one ball fizz across the six-yard-box in the second half, but we did the same thing before the break.

Then, with the score at 0-0, a quality ball into the box and a quality header won us the game.

There will be times and spells in games when we can’t play attractive football, but that does not mean we are playing poorly. You have to give the opposition some credit for stopping us.

In recent weeks though, we have found other ways to beat teams, and that surely must mean a pat on the back for the players?

So were we lucky? Was it daylight robbery? Was it a smash and grab?

I believe it was a good side finding a different way to win a game.

Jason
