BASINGSTOKE Town remain on course for a top 10 finish after their latest home success 2-0 over Dunstable Town.

The home side made just one change to the side which lost at Royston with Dan Collier coming in for the unavailable Tom Leggett.

From the start, Basingstoke dominated, and they had a couple of half chances from Sam Smart and Jack McKnight.

After this the home side had the better of the game with a number of corners, but there was no real clear cut chances.

The second half was a lot better and the visitors nearly took the lead on 47 minutes, but Andrew Osei-Bonsu’s great strike was pushed away by an excellent save from Colm McAdden.

Just seven minutes later, Basingstoke took the lead as Tim Wohfiel fed Jack McKnight and he forced a corner.

From this George Bennett delivered the ball to the near post, where Dan Bayliss headed home.

Dunstable goalkeeper Nathan Harness kept his side in the game with a number of saves as he denied Sam Deadfield, Sam Smart and Callum Bunting.

Jack McKnight then had a shot blocked by the excellent John Sonuya,

The visitors went looking for an equaliser, but in doing so they left gaps at the back.

The home side took advantage as subs Luke Richardson and Harry Long combined to free Bunting, who applied the finish in the 89th minute.

Just a minute, later Arel Amu so nearly gave his side a lifeline, but McAdden made the save.

After the game Basingstoke Town manager Terry Brown said: “It was a frustrating game, but full marks to the Dunstable players they worked really hard and they don’t get paid a penny. I thought Guri Demuria and Dan Bayliss had great games, but our finishing and final pass today was poor.”

Next up for Town is a visit from Bishop’s Stortford on Tuesday night and the visitors include former Reading striker Jamie Cureton. They impressed Brown in a recent game at Farnborough.

Town will go into the game with doubts on the fitness of Dan Collier, Michael Atkinson and Tim Wohlfiel, but Tom Leggett will be back.

Brown said: “I have to say they looked good when they smashed Farnborough the other day and it will be a big test for the boys.”

Basingstoke’s game last Thursday at St Ives was postponed and will now take place on Thursday April 26.
