BEN Wright scored a final minute penalty to make sure Basingstoke Town did not suffer their sixth straight loss on the road in the league at King’s Langley.

With a mounting injury crisis at the club, the team really picked itself for the trip to Hertfordshire, with Leslie Sackey and Guri Demuria back in for Michael Atkinson and Marcus Johnson-Schuster.

The Dragons so nearly got off to a dream start, as Sam Argent slotted home. Only for the offside flag to deny him.

The visitors continued to start the game the better and Wright’s deflected effort forced a good save from Martin Bennett.

The Langley goalkeeper then produced an even better stop to deny a powerful shot from Argent.

Town got even closer to scoring, when Wright’s clever lob beat Bennett, but came back off the crossbar.

The home side then took the lead from Brendan Orcan six minutes before the break with a nice strike from inside the area.

The visitors tried to level things before the interval, with Sam Smart’s curling shot forcing a save and from the resulting corner Shane Hollamby headed over.

The second half had fewer chances, but Basingstoke goalie Colm McAdden produced a superb save to deny Mitchell Weiss.

This proved to be oh so important as in the final minute the home side conceded a penalty. Wright made no mistake from the spot, to make sure the Dragons recorded their first away draw of the season.

The 1-1 draw moved Town to 15th in the Southern League Premier Division table.

Next up for Basingstoke is Southern League Cup action on Tuesday night, with a trip to Division One East leaders Moneyfields.
