THE survival of Basingstoke Town is set to be discussed at public meeting of the Basingstoke and Deane Brough Council tomorrow evening.

It all kicks-off at 6.30pm and the club along with other interested parties will be speaking at the meeting.

It is first item on the agenda and it is hoped as many football fans as possible will be able to attend.

The main focus is to find a place for Basingstoke Town to play their games going forward.

Their existing Camrose ground is set to be sold off for development, by the club's owner Rafi Razzak.

They will force them out of their home, once he puts in for planning permission for the Camrose.

However, this is still one of the options on the table, but would need investment by the council to buy the 71 per cent of the site they do not own.

It all depends if they want to keep it as a leisure facility for the whole town and if the grass pitch was converted to a 3G pitch, which is what the club want to do, it would greatly increase the usage of site.

Option two is for Town to move to Hampshire FA's home at Winklebury where the pitch, changing facilities and stadium are owned by the council.

The Hampshire FA administrative centre is adjacent to the pitch and they manage pitch bookings on behalf of the council.

The ground could be developed as a permanent home for the Dragons to play Southern League football, with the grass pitch again being converted to 3G pitch.

The costs to do this would be met by £250,000 from Razzak, when he invokes planning permission which he has agreed to give the Basingstoke Town Community Club.

Town feel this is best option for the club, but are aware the council may have some reservations about the newly formed community club having no track record, So they are happy to take on a temporary accommodation at Winklebury for a period of 18 months to two years to prove they are up to the job of running a successful football club.
