THE goals poured in during the second half, while the rain poured down at the Camrose, as National League side Eastleigh won 4-0 in Basingstoke Town's first home pre-season game on Tuesday night.

The Dragons were always going to be up against at as the Spitfires put out a very strong starting line-up with many of their players have league experience.

That said, the home side who played their strongest starting XI in the first 45 minutes were well organised and limited the visitors to few clear cut chances.

however, they did nearly score in the fourth minutes, when George Bennett was forced into a goal line clearance from Danny Hollands' header.

Soon after a nice flowing move saw James Constable fire wide.

The home side then had their first real chance of the game, as Bennett's cross was flicked on at the near post by Aaron Jarvis and Marcus Johnson-Schuster just failed to convert at the back post.

Eastleigh then took the lead after 26 minutes as a long throw was launched into the box by Michael Green and former Town striker Craig McAllister flicked it on with his head. The ball hit the underside of the bar and dropped into the net.

Sam Wood came close to adding a second, soon after, as he fired wide.

Then just before the break the impressive Johnson-Schuster made great ground down the right and forced a corner.

Ben Wright sent the ball in and David Ray's downward header was tipped over the bar by Graham Stack.

Basingstoke so very nearly equalised in the opening minute of the second half, as they won a free-kick on the edge of the area and from this Wright struck the post.

Soon after, Johnson-Schuster cleared a goal bound effort from Abo Obilye off the line.

Then on 53 minutes a thunderbolt strike from Ross Stearn flew into the net to make it 2-0 Soon after, Johnson Schuster fed Jarvis and his low shot was saved.

On the hour mark, both sides made a number of changes which saw the home side playing without any of last season's squad.

Not surprisingly, Eastleigh extended their lead two minutes later, as a lovely slide rule pass from Constable allowed Stearn to slot home.

Soon after, Liam Beech, who was not at fault for any of the goals, produced a great save with his feet to deny Chris Zebroski.

Then with seven minutes left the visitors wrapped up the scoring as Constable headed home from Stearn's free kick.

Town's next pre-season game is on Saturday (3pm) at home when Isthmian League Premier side Merstham are the visitors.
