BASINGSTOKE Town snapped their four game losing streak in the Southern League Premier Division, with a 1-1 draw at Frome Town.

The visitors made a nervous start in the first few minutes saw the first effort from the Robins.

A free-kick on the right from George Miller found the head of striker Jake Jackson and his downward header brought out a good save from Alex Tokarczyk, diving to his left and pushed the ball around the post.

Basingstoke responded and in their first real attack on 13 minutes. A free-kick in midfield was floated in by Sam Deadfield was floated into the Frome box.

A downward header found Aaron Jarvis, who fired home from 15 yards.

Two minutes later, the home side, almost equalised as Ollie Knight's cross was headed just wide of the post by Jackson.

The Robins then had a long spell of pressure as the visitors struggled to compete for crosses.

However, on the 27 minute mark, Aaron Redford and Jarvis combined with the latter's fierce shot forcing a good save from Carl Crabtree.

Basingstoke should have increased their lead four minutes later, when Nana Owusu's free-kick from wide on the left hit the back post and Redford reacted first to the rebound, but he was denied by a super point blank save from Crabtree.

The home side took the early initiative after the break and they though they had equalised.

Dean Griffiths created space on the left and his cross saw George Bennett's clearance see the ball end up in the net. The referee initially awarded a goal, but the assistant's flag cut short the Robins celebrations, possibly for an offside somewhere.

From here the Robins applied non stop pressure, as Tokarczyk was kept busy dealing with high crosses and several goal bound headers.

The long overdue equaliser arrived on 63 minutes. Miller sent in a long cross from the right, the Basingstoke defenders though it was going for a goal kick and switched off. Two Robins players somehow kept the ball in play and an accurate cross from the left saw Mikey Bryant score from close range.

Basingstoke responded with Owusu forcing a good block from Crabtree and then Redford headed wide from Marcus Johnson-Schuster's cross.

On 70 minutes, the Robins went close again after Miller's long throw found Jackson and he was denied by a good save from Tokarczyk.

Five minutes from the end, Basingstoke defender Joe Gater indulged in a niggly foul on the Robins' goalie which earned him a second yellow card and his marching orders.

This left the visitors to defend with 10 men for the final minutes which they did to earn a hard earned.

They will hope to start 2017 on a winning note when they entertain Dorchester on January 2 (3pm).
