BASINGSTOKE Town ended their Tuesday night league hoodoo in superb style as they avenged a defeat from earlier in the season against visiting King's Langley.

A Richie Whittingham penalty and brace from super sub George Hallahan made sure of a 3-0 victory.

Town boss Terry Brown made two changes to the side which drew at Biggleswade at the weekend, with Charlie Kennedy and Aaron Jarvis coming in for injured pair Marcus Johnson-Schuster and George Bennett.

It was the visitors who started the better as Josh Hutchinson and Ryan Plowright both had forced saves.

Sam Deadfield had the first real chance for the home side, as he got in behind right back Emmanuel Folarin, but his effort was saved.

On the 20 minute mark, Town were given a let off, as Folarin's deflected cross saw Lewis Toomey head just over.

A nice spell of pressure, then saw brothers Michael and Rob Atkinson combine with Michael Atkinson's shot well saved.

The visitors then carved out a great opening, but sub Steve Ward went for glory and fired over.

A change of formation after the break, saw the Dragons take over and they so nearly scored a stunning goal after 56 minutes.

Whittingham started the move and via the impressive Jarvis he found Deadfield just inside the area and his superb volley forced a stunning save from Danny Bonness.

Town deservedly took the lead after 65 minutes, as Jarvis found Rob Atkinson and he produced a brilliant run, going past a couple of players into the box, where he was brought down by Kyle Anthony.

Whittingham put the ball on the spot and sent the goalie the wrong slotting in the bottom corner.

Spurred on by this, the home side so nearly doubled their advantage four minutes later as Jarvis' cross to the near post saw Romone Rose, playing with an ankle injury, hit the post.

As the visitors pushed forward, Hallahan made the most of space and a long ball from Jarvis was chased down by Hallahan who beat goalkeeper Bonness to the ball and slotted home.

The result was left in no doubt in the final minute as the Town subs combined, Aaron Redford doing all the leg work down the left wing as he set up Hallahan for a tap in.

The victory moved Basingstoke up to tenth in the table and on Saturday (3pm) leaders Slough Town are the next visitors to the Ark Cancer Charity Stadium.
