BASINGSTOKE Town travelled to the Jurassic Coast on Tuesday night looking to extend a three match winning run, but ended up beaten 3-0 by Weymouth, writes DAVID GRAHAM.

After a quiet opening, the home side took the lead on eight minutes. Mark Cooper and Jordan Copp exchanged passes down the left wing and the accurate centre found Ben Thomson who was able to take a touch and fire home from the edge of the penalty box.

The Terras almost doubled the lead on 12 minutes when Dean Evans shot was saved by Alex Tokarczyk in the Town goal.

A minute later Basingstoke had the first effort of the night when Ramone Rose fired a shot a few feet over from distance.

Weymouth were dominating midfield and on 19 minutes a good break down the left wing involving Cooper and Copp set up Charlie Davis for a chance. The visitors were relieved to see the effort go wide.

A minute later Nana Owusu had a chance for ‘stoke bur saw his effort saved by Dan Thomas in the Terras goal. Two minutes later, Owusu and George Hallahan combined well and the latter saw his effort pushed wide by Dan Thomas.

On 25 minutes Weymouth doubled the lead. Basingstoke lost possession in the middle of the park allowing the home side to build up pressure.

The chance was set up for Evans who miscued his shot. However the ball ran kindly for the Terras and straight into the path of Stewart Yetton who fired home the second from close range.

Basingstoke almost reduced the arrears when Owusu managed to get the ball past Dean Thomas. However, a back tracking defender managed to get the ball off the line.

On 34 minutes ,Weymouth were awarded a free-kick on the 18 yard line after a foul on Stephane Duber. The kick was well struck and brought a good save from Tokarczyk.

Two minutes later, a good move by the Terras saw Davis fire his shot just wide.

Basingstoke got off to the worst possible start to the second half following a defensive lapse.

Weymouth built an attack down the left but the cross ball was poor. Basingstoke were unable to clear their lines and the ball fell to Billy Lowes who fired home from the edge of the box.

Owusu had a chance for Basingstoke on 55 minutes, after making a good run to get behind the Weymouth defence. His final shot brought a comfortable save from Thomas.

On 57 minutes, Thomson went on a run after picking the ball up in midfield and went close to adding to the Terras lead.

Weymouth substitute Sam Jordan was unlucky not to score, when his fierce shot from an Ashley Wells cross crashed off the crossbar on 79 minutes.

Basingstoke put together their best move of the evening in the closing stages when a good run by Robert Atkinson followed by some good interplay set up Marcus Johnson-Schuster who was unlucky not to score.

Next up for Town is another away trip to Biggleswade Town on Saturday.
