BASINGSTOKE Town continued their march up the Southern League Premier Division table with a 1-0 win over visiting St Neots.

Dragons’ boss Terry Brown kept the same side which won 3-1 at Dunstable the previous weekend and they had very much the better of the first 45 minutes.

The lively Nana Owusu went close in the opening couple of minutes and then Richie Whittingham forced the first save of the game.

Romone Rose was then denied, before the home side were forced to make a change after Ashleigh Artwell was injured and was replaced by Aaron Jarvis.

The home side continued to control the game and took the lead after 35 minutes.

This was thanks to an excellent strike from man of the match Rose as his shot found its way through a crowded penalty area after a corner.

The Dragons had further chances before the interval from Jarvis and Sam Deadfield, while home goalie Alex Tokarczyk was called into action to tip over a shot from Sam Mulready.

After the break, St Neots came more into the game as they looked for an equaliser, but the visitors defended really well and the closest they came to scoring was when Andrew Williams’ shot was cleared off the line.

Further Town chances fell to Rose and Whittingham, with Deadfield also having a shot blocked late on.

The victory moved the Dragons up to 14th in the table and on Tuesday evening they are away at Weymouth, who are one place below them in the standings.
