BASINGSTOKE Town were relegated from the National League South on Tuesday night after they lost 3-2 to Gosport Borough on Tuesday night.

It was a far cry from last season which saw the Dragons finished third and make the play-offs and now 12 months later they are set to finish bottom.

Town were one of the original members of this league when it was formed in 2004 after a restructuring of the leagues at this level.

They will now wait to see where they will play next season.

It will be either the Isthmian League or Southern League, but will not be decided until after all the other promotion and relegations are known.

Despite Town being down with three games to go, Town manager Terry Brown still wants his side to try and pick up as many points as they can from their final games. This starts with a tough trip to play-off hopefuls Dartford on Saturday.

Midfielder Simon Dunn is expected to return on Saturday, after missing the Gosport game due to an ear infection.

Brown is also set to blood a couple of the under-21 side as he starts to build for the future, which for Town will hopefully be a quick return back to National League South.

Brown said: "I want the players to see they have pride in this club in the final few games. I am looking for them to put in shift for me.

"I am not happy with their levels of fitness as I like to to play a high tempo game, but we can't do this at the moment for 90 minutes."
