BASINGSTOKE Town missed out on the chance to play at St Mary's, the home of Southampton FC, as they beaten in the semi-final of the Hampshire Senior Cup by arch rivals Havant and Waterlooville 2-0.

It completed a hat-trick of home wins for south Hampshire side over the Dragons this season, as they have previously beaten them in the league and FA Trophy.

Basingstoke boss Michael Gilkes reshuffled his line-up making eight changes to the side which lost at Maidstone at the weekend in the league, only goalkeeper Aaron Howe, left back Tom Bird and captain for the night Jack Deaman remained in the starting line-up.

Recent signing Guri Demuria made his first team debut and forward George Hallahan saw another cup run out after a recent loan spell away at Farnborough.

The Dragons had a completely new look midfield with Simon Dunn back from injury, playing alongside Louie Soares and Shaun McAuley, Elsewhere Rob Rice, Chris Flood and Lloyd Macklin all earned starts in a game, which saw the home side make only three changes to the side which lost at Hemel Hempstead at the weekend.

The first half saw no goals from either side, which is often the case of games in south Hampshire.

The home side took four minutes of the second-half to take the lead, as Scott Donnelly's deep free-kick was headed home by Matt Paterson.

Havant doubled their advantage as Paterson low ball found James Hayter and he played the ball into the path of Shamir Mullings after 63 minutes.

The victory earned Havant a place in the final at St Mary's on April 12, when they will face Southern League Division One South and West Winchester City who beat Fleet Town 3-0 in the other semi-final.
