BASINGSTOKE Town Ladies are through to the Hampshire Women's Cup Final after beating a spirited Solent Ladies side 2-0 at Test Park.

Southern Region Premier side Basingstoke were favourites going into the game and it started at a fast pace but neither team managed to create a meaningful effort.

Town broke the deadlock just before half time when Josette Pearmine beat two players to put in a sublime cross for Lindsey Beverley to finish at the back post.

The second half began similar to the first, with both teams having few clear cut chances.

Town doubled their lead on 55 minutes when Pearmine herself scored, with an effort from just outside the centre circle which beat the Solent goalkeeper as she dived full stretch to try and save it.

That goal deflated Solent and Town began to dominate, but were unable to make the most of their chances.

Town will be appearing in their first Hampshire Cup Final on Wednesday April 13 (7.45pm) against Premier League Portsmouth Ladies, which will be played at the ground of Havant and Waterlooville.

In the clubs other game this weekend the reserve team were also in Hampshire Cup action but this time around they could not match the first team and succumbed to a 3-1 semi-final defeat against Gosport Borough. Town’s only goal came from Shannon King.

Both teams return to league action on Sunday with the first team travelling to league leaders Oxford City and the reserves are away at Gosport Borough.
