BASINGSTOKE Town boss Michael Gilkes has wasted no time in adding to his squad, after the he was unable to secure a longer loan period for Reading centre half Dominic Hyam.

He returned to the Royals after his spell at the Camrose finished on January 2.

Coming into the back line to help the Dragons out as they hope to roar away from the relegation zone is 22-year-old centre half Jack Deaman.

He is the first of hopefully two new faces which will be added to the squad, ahead of Town's next game against visiting Hemel Hempstead in the National League South on Saturday.

The 6f 3in defender was born in Camden and began his career playing for Wrexham.

Deaman then moved to Championship side Birmingham City in 2011, but due to illness and injury was unable to force his way into the side.

He then moved south to join League Two outfit Cheltenham Town and was loaned out to Eastbourne Borough then in the Conference South and made 21 appearances for the Sussex side and scored three times.

The following season he made his League debut for Cheltenham against AFC Wimbledon and picked up the man of the match award as part of a back three in the game.

He went play 18 league games for them as they relegated from League Two. He also made appearances in the FA Cup and League Cup.

This season he has been out on loan at National League North side Telford United and played 11 times in the league and once in the FA Cup.

He goes straight into the squad for Saturday's game and Town manager Michael Gilkes said: "I am hoping to make two signings this week and this can benefit the team with more competition for places."
