MANNY Williams was Basingstoke Town’s two goal hero as he scored twice in added on time as they won at Eastbourne Borough 2-1 in the National League South.

It was Town’s second win on the trot and the first time this season they have achieved back-to-back victories in the league.

The win also cut the gap at the bottom of the table to two points to Havant and Waterlooville and Town are now five points from safety, which ironically is now Eastbourne.

Town boss Michael Gilkes was forced into one change to the side which had won at home to Hayes and Yeading, as defender Dominic Hyam’s loan spell at the club ended on January 2.

So Ryan Case returned to the back four and once again Town went with a strike force of Liam Enver-Marum and Chris Flood.

On a day where strong winds made it hard to play football, the first half ended with the teams level at 0-0.

However, the home side were down to 10 men as Marvin Hamilton had been shown a red card after a really bad late tackle on Town defender Nathan Smart after 33 minutes.

Despite being reduced to 10 men it was the Sussex side who took the lead after 47 minutes as Kane Haysman scored with a really nice strike from 25 yards out which left Town goalie Aaron Howe no chance.

Even if they went a goal down the visitors did not give-up and created most of their chances in the later stages of the game.

Then just as it looked like Eastbourne goalie David Gregory, on loan from Crystal Palace, would mark his debut with a clean sheet, Williams made the most of good work from sub Rowan Vine to score.

Within a minute the home side were reduced to nine men as captain Ian Simpembra was shown a red card for abusive language.

Town made the most of the two man advantage as they surged forward and Williams scored the winner on the 93 minute mark to send the visiting fans home happy.

The Dragons will now look to make it three wins on the trot when they face Hemel Hempstead at the Camrose on Saturday.

Hemel warmed up for their trip to Hampshire, with a 2-0 victory over Havant and Waterlooville.
